Shane and Alisha

July 22, 2015  •  Leave a Comment
I grew up with Shane's family.  They are wonderful, he is wonderful, and they would make fabulous parents.  Feel free to share this post and get the word out there that Shane and Alisha are waiting for their child!

The poem accompanying this post is by Teri Harrison. (Altered a little bit to apply better to their current situation.)

Here is a little something they wrote for you to read about them.

"When Alisha and I were first married, we received some marriage advice that stuck with us. We were told to do everything we could to "keep each others' love buckets full," meaning we should do everything we can to love and serve each other with all our hearts throughout our marriage. We worked hard to do just that. Then, after trying for a year to get pregnant, we found out we couldn't have kids on our own. It was the hardest thing we have experienced, but we braved it together. Time helped us heal, and after a lot of consideration, we decided to apply to adopt. And just a few months ago, we were approved! We created a profile on adoption.com(http://adoption.com/profiles/Gallaghersadopt-5762) and have been trying to spread the word.

A few weeks after we were approved, Brianne (who I grew up with) asked if she could take pictures to help our adoption profile stand out. We said YES, and a few days before our schedule shoot, we found a literal love bucket. We brought it along to the lavender farms, and now we have photos that capture exactly what we want expectant birth parents to see. We can't wait to find our little one to fill our love bucket."

“Longing for a child to love,
We wish upon the stars above.

In our hearts we always knew,
A part of us is meant for you.

I think how happy we will be,

Once we adopt you, making us a family

we dream of all the joy you’ll bring,

Imagining even the littlest things.
The way it will feel to hold you tight,

And tuck you in every night.

The drawings on the refrigerator door,

And childhood toys across the floor,
The favorite stories read again and again,

And hours of games with make-believe friends.
The day you take our outstretched hands,

A journey will end, but our lives more complete.

thinking of memorizing your sweet face,

We dream of our first embrace.
We promise to give you a happy home,

And a loving family all your own.

A house you'll make more complete,

With laughter, smiles and tiny feet.

A parent is one who guides the way,
Know I will be there everyday.
You'll rest easy as each night you sleep,
A lifetime of love will be yours to keep. Longing for a child to love,
We wish upon the stars above.
In our hearts we always knew...
A part of us belongs to you.

The Jones Family

July 16, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

I met up with the Jones family while I was visiting  my family in Missouri where I grew up.  I found this field out in the country and the little old man who owns it was so kind to let us use it.  Dawn and Austin are childhood friends of mine.  I have many happy memories going over to Dawn's house, and visiting the lake with her family.  It was so fun to see them and experience them later in life as the family they have grown into.  They have a beautiful daughter Loralie.  She is spunky and has the most fabulous hair.  Spencer is everything you would expect from a little boy...mischievious, funny, and energetic.  He also has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  Here is his story from his mother.....

"Spencer has always kind of walked funny and I always thought I was the paranoid mom because friends, doctors, and other moms would say, "oh, he'll grow out of it."  Spencer never grew out of it.  It wasn't until I started to get him ready for pre-school that a teacher noticed.  The rest is history.  After years of going to doctors and asking what was the matter, one doctor finally decided to check a 'what-if'...  Her 'what-if ' became and 'it is'.  June 2014 Spencer was officially diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  We had no prior history in my family and yet here we are. Duchenne affects one in every 3500 boys. There is absolutely no cure....and it is 100% FATAL. It affects every single muscle in his body including his heart, because, as luck would have it, the heart is the most powerful muscle in the body.  How do you move on knowing that's your fate?  You just do.  You have to, for him.  So, for now we live life like it's normal.  We let Spencer do whatever 5 year old boys do; he runs (albiet slowly) because he won't get to later in life, he rides  his bikes, plays with cars, and dreams big dreams."   ---Dawn Jones

They sell shirts annually during his birthday month (JULY!!) to help with his medical expenses. If you would like to be a part of helping Spencer and his family, you are in luck!  Go to www.savespencerdmd.bigcartel.com and buy a cool shirt.  It's a small gesture that can go a long way.

Jordan and Brynn

July 14, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

This Mother-daughter session is definitely one of my favorite sessions I have ever done.  The sky was beautiful, the desert was beautiful, the light was beautiful, and my subjects were beautiful!  Little Brynn was  such a trooper...it was a little chilly and windy, but she just loved on her mother happily.  I want to narrate this post with the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.  My Mother, my Daughter by Janice Kapp Perry

Sometimes when I see you, my daughter, my own,
My heart fills with love seeing how you have grown.

Your hands, once so small, are so clean and pure.
Your heart filled with love helps my own soul endure.

The prayers that you speak give me faith to go on,
And the smile in your eyes gives me hope for the dawn.

Then I wonder why and give thanks

that I was chosen to be your mother.

The seasons come; the seasons go; and I see you grow.
The light of faith is in your eyes; I saw it long ago.

I weep at your sorrows, smile when life is fair.
I speak your name in each tender prayer.
So reach for your dreams, for every good thing,
depending on my love, my dear daughter.
 I’ve watched you, dear mother, each day of my life;
I’ve seen how you smile through the joy and the strife.
I’ve needed your love and have known you were there.
I’ve seen how you help to bring answers to prayers.
The world that surrounds me is blind and unsure;
But with you as my mother, I’m safe and secure.

Then I wonder why and give thanks

that I was chosen to be your daughter.
